Late evenings

Was surprised to notice that the evening now is coming around 8pm. This fact is allowing us to eat dinner outside, and I was hoping for bats, as we saw one fluttered out from our eaves a couple of nights ago. No such luck tonight, but it can't be long now. I have taken pictures of aphids and caterpillars, so I know the insect world has seen the new leaves, and are preparing for the juiciness to come.

While the mammals world is disappointing, the birds are doing their part to delight. As the sun fell, there was a fly-over of a night heron, with its distinctive short neck and long bill. I was wondering what was keeping the mosquito fish in check, and as usual, nature answers all questions. There was an impressive flight of turkey vultures that came in this evening, likely from the dump in Rio Rancho. They flapped their wing about once each hour, and really showed what the skill of flight was all about.
