Going to be a hot day

A lot of the insects that are pests to agriculture live their lives as grubs underground eating plant roots, like this stag beetle. The come up to breed

This dandelion like plant is chicory. The burnt roots were once used as a coffee substitute. They also produce the really large seed balls kids blow on

While there are many subterranean beetles, they also leave holes as they exit the ground. This probably a darkling beetle burrow, but here are many cicada emergence holes around too. This hole will get used by small lizards, toads, and other insects

This common snail uses lungs to breath through a small hole just visible at the rim of the shell. it uses teeth on its tongue to scrape vegetable matter and walks by using muscular contractions of the belly, which is what the latin name "gastropod" means

Another European immigrant is the domestic honey bee. Apart from making honey, these guys also hunt insects. Their famous honey collecting is less noticeable is the southwest, where winters are less severe.

A definite sign of summer is this ant swarm. there are just so many species in Corrales!
One of the most charismatic pictures of a frog I've taken. Quiet the Mona Lisa smile!

This hot day and a bright moon tonight is a good sign that a lot of animals will be out tonight. Predators have trouble hunting on bright nights because their prey have great senses

On the evening walk we found a cache of fur from some critter, either someone sheared a dog and threw the clipping on the ditch, or an owl had a really big dinner.
