Ant wars

I have noticed recently a lot of inter ant fighting. this picture shows a large ant taking a smaller ant back to the nest. Sorry, ants are hard to photograph when they are on a mission! I also recently found a large ant dead with a smaller dead ant locked in combat

There have been clouds of gnats over the water recently, and the birds appear to have been taking notice. Most bird babies have fledged and are learning to hunt. We watched tyrant flycatchers and barn swallows sitting on telephone wires while the parents brought the teenagers food constantly.
