drought

I notice that the sunflowers seem to support a lot more insects, especially wasps and ants, than the more abundant pigweeds, which mostly hide grasshoppers. This likely because of the free sugars juices provided by aphid colonies.
The ditches are drying up and the silt is slowly leaving the irrigation water. The new real estate that is being exposed is a boon for many small animals; and the bigger ones that feed on them. Walking last night we saw a group of four (four!) Great blue heron that seem to have moved into the area recently. There are a lot of insect bodies around as well as a lot of young lizards.
I seem to have wasps on the mind right now, because I am seeing them everywhere, all shapes all sizes.
Open fields being cut right now attract lots of birds. In the big lots, they are irrigating fields and also cutting grass, both activities make the pickings easy for birds in the area.
Strange to see old trees cut down to prevent shade affecting solar panels conservation getting complicated.
